Irish Government approves floating LNG emergency facility

On Tuesday, the Irish government announced that it had approved the development of an emergency temporary facility for importing liquefied gas (LNG) and storing it. Ireland is one out of five EU members without domestic storage. The government says this is a problem in the event that one or both subsea interconnectors are damaged. The emergency reserve is a floating storage unit and regassification (FSRU) with a capacity of 170,000 cubic meters of LNG. It will be able supply 200,000 domestic gas customers on average for six months. Gas Networks Ireland will own it on behalf of Ireland.
New Study to Look at Irish Ports and Offshore Wind

Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions (GDG), a specialist engineering consultant, is undertaking an EU-wide study to determine potential funding models to improve Irish port infrastructure to the scale required to achieve the Government target of 7 GW of offshore wind in Irish waters by 2030. It follows GDG’s recent National Ports Study, conducted on behalf of Wind Energy Ireland, which found that only one out of 13 major ports on the island of Ireland is ready to be used for constructing offshore wind farms. A key…
Geoquip Wraps Geotechnical Survey at Oriel Wind Farm Location

Offshore geotechnical firm Geoquip has completed a month-long geotechnical survey at the Oriel wind farm location offshore Ireland. This work complements last year’s geophysical survey campaign completed during August 2019 by Irish company Alpha Marine. "The data collected during these surveys is essential as it not only contributes to the foundation design but also to the future wind farm layout," offshore wind farm developer Parkwind said. The Oriel offshore wind farm is in the development stage and is located approximately 22km off the coast of Dundalk.Peter Caluwaerts…

Eni, Exxon, Statoil Win Irish Offshore O&G Licences
The Irish government said on Thursday it had awarded oil and gas licences to companies including oil majors Eni, Exxon and Statoil , allowing them to explore for hydrocarbons off the coast of Ireland. The energy ministry has awarded 14 new licences as a first phase of a tender for offshore blocks that gives companies access to new exploration areas for two years, it said. The round attracted 43 applications. "This is by far the largest number of applications received in any licensing round held in the Irish offshore," said Joe McHugh, Ireland's minister for communications, energy and natural resources, in a statement.
Play Fairway Mapping is Key in the North Sea

Regional play fairway mapping is the key to locating remaining prospectivity in the prolific North Sea hydrocarbon province, according to the new Ternan play evaluation report released by global energy services company LR Senergy. The Ternan 2015 Integrated North Sea Report is the latest in a series of regional play fairway evaluations that analyze petroleum systems and provide exploration specialists with a unique insight into the regional risk factors that impact subsurface studies. The reports are designed for evaluation and screening of exploration opportunities.
