Harris CapRock Connectivity Assists Oceaneering ROV Ops

Technology from Harris CapRock Communications is enabling Oceaneering International, Inc. to remotely pilot and automatically control its NEXXUS remotely operated vehicle ROV. Harris CapRock is providing satellite bandwidth and service to operate the ROV, which enables the pilot to execute assignments ranging from simple video monitoring to highly complex vessel inspection tasks. The satellite link enables Oceaneering to pilot the ROV from offshore, from another vessel, or from an onshore command center.

Harris CapRock Debuts New Cyber Security Solution

Harris CapRock Communications, a provider of managed communications services for remote and harsh environments, has launched SafePass Pro, an advanced cyber security solution for proactive defense against cyberattacks targeting oil and gas IT infrastructures. The solution is also available for cruise, maritime and other commercial customers. Industry experts estimate cyber attacks against the global energy industry will cost businesses up to $1.9 billion by 2018.

BIG DATA: First Intelsat EpicNG Satellite Launched

The launch yesterday of  the Intelsat 29e, the first of the Intelsat EpicNG high throughput satellites, promises to usher in a new era of "Big Data" in the maritime sector, among others. The satellite was launched from French Guiana aboard an Ariane 5 vehicle. Manufactured by Boeing and equipped with advanced digital payload, Intelsat 29e will bring high throughput capacity in both C- and Ku-band to North and Latin America and the North Atlantic region.

Johnson Joins Speedcast as Senior VP, Energy

SpeedCast International Limited (SpeedCast) announced that Keith Johnson has joined SpeedCast as senior vice president / GM in charge of Energy services globally. In this role, Johnson will oversee all of SpeedCast’s business activities for the Energy sector (Oil and Gas in particular), including strategic planning, program management, business development and global sales for SpeedCast’s worldwide operations. Johnson has experience in the Satellite Telecommunication and Energy industries, which he gained over the past 30 years.

MTN Appoints Venegas GM, Oil and Gas

This appointment further solidifies MTN’s position in the market as a pioneer in communications technology spanning across various market segments. A 35-year industry veteran and respected consultant, Santos most recently served as managing director for Latin America at Harris CapRock. Prior to that role, he was director of Corporate Development.
