Oil Discovery at Langfjellet
Det norske oljeselskap ASA (“Det norske”), operator of PL 442, announces that drilling of exploration well 25/2-18 S on the Langfjellet prospect in the North Sea is about to be completed. The well encountered a gross oil column of 109 meters in the Vestland Group. A technical sidetrack was drilled to collect data and the well is currently being prepared for a sidetrack and welltest. Preliminary volume estimates for the discovery are in the range of 24 to 74 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Cairn Success in offshore Senegal continues
Cairn announced the results of the SNE-4 appraisal well offshore Senegal where operations have been safely and successfully completed following drilling, coring and logging. The well is now being plugged and abandoned. The SNE-4 well was appraising the eastern extent of the SNE field discovered in 2014 and aiming to confirm the nature of the upper reservoirs in the oil zone. New Western Flank Oil Discovery at Balgowan-1
Drillsearch Energy Limited announced that a new oil discovery at the Balgowan-1 exploration well in PEL 91 on the Western Flank Oil Fairway of the Cooper Basin. Wireline logs carried out at Balgowan-1 have confirmed a 9-metre gross oil column in the McKinlay-Namur and as a result, the well has been cased and suspended as a future oil producer, the 14th discovery in PEL 91. Analysis of the well results is continuing and Drillsearch will provide an update on the size of the discovery in due course.
Exploration Well in Drivis Completed
Operator Statoil has together with PL532 partners made an oil and gas discovery in the Drivis prospect in the Barents Sea. This concludes the 2013/2014 exploration programme around the Johan Castberg field. Well 7220/7-3 S, drilled by the rig West Hercules, has proven a 68 metre gross gas column in the Stø formation and an 86 metre gross oil column in the Stø and Nordmela formations. Statoil estimates the total volumes in Drivis to be in the range of 44-63 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent (o.e.)…
Norway Confirms Small Arctic Oil Find
Norwegian oil explorer Det norske made a small oil discovery in the Arctic Barents Sea with a gross oil column of about 30 metres and much poorer reservoir quality than expected, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said on Monday. Det norske earlier said it found some oil in the prospect but initial volumes did not justify development. Det norske operates the licence and holds a 20 percent stake.
