Norwegian oil company Equinor announced Wednesday it has proven gas and condensate in the 6406/2-9 S exploration well at Ragnfrid North around 20 kilometers south of the Kristin platform in the Norwegian Sea. Recoverable resources are estimated at 6-25 million barrels of oil equivalent.“We are pleased to start the new year by announcing a new discovery. Woodside's Second Gas Discovery in Myanmar
Woodside advises that the Thalin-1A exploration well in Block AD-7 in the Rakhine Basin has intersected a gross gas column of approximately 64m. Approximately 62m of net gas pay is interpreted within the primary target interval. Block AD-7 is located in the Bay of Bengal, approximately 100km offshore of the west coast of Myanmar. Water depth at the Thalin-1A well location is 836m. The well reached a total depth of 3034m, referenced from the rig rotary table.
Woodside Discovers Gas Offshore Myanmar
Woodside advises that the Shwe Yee Htun-1 exploration well in Block A-6 in the Rakhine Basin, located in the western offshore area of Myanmar, has intersected a gross gas column of approximately 129 m. Approximately 15 m of net gas pay is interpreted within the primary target interval. The well reached the planned original total depth (TD) of 4810 m, referenced from the rig rotary table. Following drilling, wireline logging was conducted and confirmed the presence of a gas column through pressure measurements and gas sampling.
Statoil Third Time Lucky in Aasta Hansteen
Statoil and PL602 partners have made a gas discovery in the Gymir prospect. With three discoveries in a row, an important progress has been made in unlocking full potential of the Aasta Hansteen area. “Our 2015 exploration campaign around Aasta Hansteen has proven an upside potential in the area. The estimated total volumes in the three discoveries, Snefrid Nord, Roald Rygg and Gymir, amount to 75-120 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent, corresponding to about 1/3 of the Aasta Hansteen recoverable volumes.
ConocoPhillips Updates Angola, GoMexico Ops
ConocoPhillips has struck out with two exploration wells, one offshore Angola and the other in the Gulf of Mexico, the company announced Wednesday. According to ConocoPhillips, Omosi-1 deepwater exploration well in Block 37, offshore Angola in the Kwanza basin, has been drilled to a total depth of 20,666 ft. A gas column of approximately 525 ft was encountered in the primary objective reservoir. No further activity is planned. The well has been plugged and abandoned.

Operator Statoil has together with PL218 partners made a gas discovery in the Snefrid Nord prospect in the Norwegian Sea. The discovery is an important contribution to the Aasta Hansteen field development project and Polarled pipeline utilisation. “The Snefrid Nord discovery increases the resource base for the Aasta Hansteen field development project by around 15%,” says Irene Rummelhoff, senior vice president exploration Norway in Statoil.
Shell: "Substantial" Gabon Gas Find
Shell has announced a frontier exploration discovery offshore Gabon, West Africa. The well Leopard-1 encountered a substantial gas column with around 200 metres net gas pay in a pre-salt reservoir. Leopard-1 is located around 145 kilometres off the Gabonese coast, west of Gamba. It was drilled in water 2,110 metres deep to a total vertical depth of 5,063 metres. Statoil: Gas discovery in Pingvin
Operator Statoil has together with PL713 partners made a gas discovery in the Pingvin prospect in the Barents Sea. The discovery is a play opener in a frontier unexplored area of the Barents Sea northwest of Johan Castberg. The discovery well 7319/12-1, drilled by the drilling rig Transocean Spitsbergen, proved a 15-metre gas column in the well path. Statoil estimates the volumes in Pingvin to be in the range of 30-120 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent. The discovery is currently assessed as non-commercial.
Ophir Makes Equatorial Guinea Gas Find
Ophir Energy plc announced that the Silenus East-1 well in Block R, Equatorial Guinea has resulted in a new gas discovery. The Silenus East-1 well was drilled by the Vantage Titanium Explorer drillship within the thrust belt area of Block R. A 67m gross gas column was encountered in the primary target with high quality reservoir in line with pre-drill expectations. The well was deepened to test a secondary high risk oil target and encountered high quality, but water-wet, reservoirs with weak oil shows.

Shell Finds Gas in New Site Offshore Malaysia
Anglo-Dutch oil and gas major Shell announced on Thursday it had found gas in a new drilling area off Malaysia. It found more than 450 metres of gas column at its Rosmari-1 well and plans further exploration, Shell said. "Rosmari-1 is a testament to our ability to successfully drill and build understanding of new geology within our existing exploration heartlands, adding value to our existing assets in Malaysia," said Andy Brown, director of Shell's international upstream business.

Operator Statoil has together with PL272 partners made a gas discovery in the Askja West prospect and an oil discovery in the Askja East prospect in the North Sea. The exploration wells 30/11-9 S and 30/11-9 A, drilled by the drilling rig Ocean Vanguard, are located between the Oseberg and Frigg fields and about 13 km southeast of the Statoil-operated Krafla/Krafla West discoveries. Main wellbore 30/11-9 S tested the Askja West prospect and proved a net gas column of 90 metres in Late and Middle Jurassic rocks.
