Gasum now Biggest Biogas Producer in Nordic countries

Gasum has purchased 100% of the shares of the Swedish biogas producer Swedish Biogas International. The transaction makes Gasum the biggest producer of biogas in the Nordic countries. In the transaction concluded today, five biogas plants located in Jordberga, Katrineholm, Lidköping and Örebro as well as a majority shareholding in a production plant located in Västerås, Sweden, are transferred to Gasum’s ownership. Can the Saudi Economy Survive Cheap Oil?

In late February, several hundred Saudi officials, company executives and foreign consultants gathered in a luxury Riyadh hotel to discuss how Saudi Arabia's economy could survive an era of cheap oil. One company manager at the event told Reuters that officials from about 30 Saudi government bodies manned booths in which they described their challenges. Corporate bosses were encouraged to "figure out ways to do partnerships to address those needs, to offer feedback, to complain, and to plan future ventures or even just future meetings," the manager said.

Puerto Rico's Power Still Up, Debt Crisis Continues

Puerto Rico managed to keep its electricity flowing this week - but creditors made it clear that the crisis enveloping the island's power utility is far from over. Banks, led by Citibank and Canada's Scotiabank , on Thursday agreed to a seven-and-a-half month extension of $671 million in credit lines the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (Prepa) needs to buy oil that is essential to keep it operating. But they also got Prepa to commit to appointing a chief restructuring officer next month, and to produce a full restructuring plan in March next year, in an attempt to get the power company's finances onto a more stable footing.

DOE Funds Research on Alternative Biofuels

Tomorrow, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) kicks off a third summer season of alternative biofuel testing in an effort to further advance marine engine technology and find an alternative to fuel containing more than 10% ethanol as a result of its damaging effects on marine engines. The tests are funded by the Department of Energy which released a 2011 report on engines using E15 revealing performance issues like stalling, corrosion leading to oil or fuel leaks, increased emissions and damaged valves, rubber fuel lines and gaskets.
