EMEC Tidal Lease Extended

The European Marine Energy Centre has secured a lease extension on its primary tidal energy test site until 2040 from Crown Estate Scotland.The extension will support the long-term ambitions and demonstration plans of EMEC’s clients.The grid-connected Fall of Warness site has eight test berths ranging from 12-50 metres in depth.

SME Secures Funding to Begin Array Build Out at EMEC

Sustainable Marine Energy (SME) has arranged a £4.5 million (approximately $6.6 million) funding package to commence the deployment of an array of its PLAT-O tidal energy systems at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney. SME has conducted extensive testing of its first PLAT-O prototype in the Solent, off the Isle of Wight, during 2014 and 2015.

Ocean Energy Board Names Stevenson President

Ocean Energy Europe’s board of directors has elected Rob Stevenson as its new president. His appointment follows the election of six new directors on Ocean Energy Europe’s board. Stevenson is Vice President of Alstom’s Ocean Energy Business, having moved in 2013 from his position as Vice President of Rolls-Royce Power Ventures and CEO of Tidal Generation Ltd.

Class NK Eyes Singapore Renewable Energy Facility

ClassNK has launched a feasibility study for a new marine renewable energy testing facility to be built in Singapore. The announcement was made at the 2014 Asian Clean Energy Summit held in Singapore on 28-29 October 2014. The study will pave the way for the establishment of the world’s first marine renewable energy testing facility to be located in the tropics.
