Green Marine Grows Offshore Fleet

Researchers Set Out to Future-proof Offshore Wind Turbine Monopiles

DNV GL Wins Verification Work for Wintershall

DNV GL has been awarded a 5 year contract to provide in-service verification work for Wintershall Noordzee B.V.’s (WINZ) RAVN and A6-A platforms. The two platforms based in the North Sea are the unmanned RAVN in the Danish sector and manned A6-A in the German sector. RAVN is the first field in Denmark that Wintershall  Noordzee will transition to the production phase as operator. The A6-A platform is undergoing a major overhaul, with WINZ extending it to include an oil processing plant alongside the current gas condensate facilities.

VOS Challenge joins Vroon Fleet

VOS Challenge has been delivered to Vroon according to the company spokesman. The vessel left Fujian Southeast Shipyard (FSES) in Fuzhou, China on Thursday 23 June at the start of her journey to Thailand, where she will be delivered to charterers PTTEP. VOS Challenge, a 65m anchor-handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel, is the first in an exciting new series of six such vessels under construction at the Shipyard for Vroon. She is a KCM 65m vessel, designed by Khiam Chuan Marine. Vroon’s Performance and Engineering Department worked closely together with KCM to enhance vessel capabilities.

Total Deploy LBL Network in Record Time

Following on from the installation of a Long BaseLine (LBL) acoustic positioning network at the giant Egina oil field off the coast of Nigeria, French oil major Total and its project partners have repeated their success using the same Sonardyne Fusion 6G technology offshore Angola at the even larger, even deeper, Kaombo oil field. The campaign to deploy, calibrate and make ready for work the field-wide array of transponder frames, was completed in just 31 days using the seabed component of a Fusion 6G system.

Massive FPSO Modules Installed at Brasa Shipyard

Mammoet, a service provider specializing in engineered heavy lifting and transport, said it has completed a module weighing and transport project in Brasa Shipyard, Brazil. In July 2015, SBM Offshore awarded Mammoet Brazil a contract for the weighing and transport of construction modules for the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels Cidade de Maricá & Cidade de Saquarema, both located at Brasa Shipyard (Niteroi - Rio de Janeiro). The operation for the FPSO Cidade de Maricá is now complete.

Lamprell to Implement Software for Automated Manufacturing

U.A.E based offshore jackup rig builder Lamprell Energy Ltd., will implement SSI's EnterprisePlatform software solution to allow its engineering team to automate manufacturing processes. Acording to SSI (developer of ShipConstructor software), the immediate benefit will come from streamlining and automating Lamprell's processes used to control robotic machinery on the production floor (e.g. CNC Profiling Machines) based on information from the engineering department's ShipConstructor-based product data model.

InterAct Appoints Lerma as Engineering Manager

InterAct, an Acteon company, has appointed Val Lerma, P.E., as engineering manager. Lerma will be based in InterAct’s Ventura, California, office and has more than 30 years of experience working with major and independent oil and gas operators, both on and offshore. She has experience in drilling, reservoir and production engineering as well as management roles and will enhance InterAct’s engineering capabilities. Lerma served as the engineering manager, business development manager and president of Orchard Petroleum Inc., and Orchard E&P, LLC.

MHI Nuclear Engineering Training in Vietnam

On December 5, a ceremony was held at Electric Power University (EPU) in Hanoi, Vietnam, to mark the start of the fourth year Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) is providing instruction in nuclear engineering at this educational institution. The ceremony was attended by numerous guests and dignitaries, including: Nguyen Cuong Lam, Vice President of Vietnam Electricity (EVN); representatives from Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Education and Training; and Mr. Michio Daito, Counselor at the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam.

Petrobras Probe Finds Corruption, One Exec Fired

Brazil's state-run oil company, Petrobras, has fired one executive for corruption and identified about 15 other employees involved in irregular contracts with suppliers, a source familiar with the situation said on Wednesday. Partial results of a continuing internal investigation were presented at a board meeting on Friday, the source said on condition of anonymity. The dismissed executive was identified as being in Petrobras' engineering department, based at a research center in Rio de Janeiro.

China Studies Floating Gas Plants for South China Sea

Chinese energy giant CNOOC Group is studying the possibility of building a multibillion-dollar floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel, as-yet untried technology that would likely be used to produce gas from the deep waters of the South China Sea. While the state-run company has made no public announcement, a pre-feasibility study was well under way, CNOOC and other industry officials said. CNOOC was already talking to global engineering firms about possible joint design of the vessel, two industry officials added.

Aubin Group Reports Promising Growth in Last Year

Chemical engineering specialist Aubin Group has reported strong growth following an investment from BGF. Aubin Ltd, the parent company of Aubin Group, announced that for the 12 months ending June 30, 2013, turnover was £6.5million, up more than 35% from £4.8million during the same period in the previous financial year. Divorce Costs Could Sour Scotland's North Sea Hopes

Scottish nationalists are betting $2.5 trillion of hydrocarbons trapped miles beneath the North Sea could bankroll an independent Scotland, but winning control of the European Union's largest oil reserves would be no blank cheque. Scotland says the bulk of Britain's North Sea oil and gas reserves are in its waters, while London says any division would be subject to negotiations should Scots vote to end their 307-year-old union with England in a referendum on Sept. 18.
