UTEC Develops Bespoke FPSO Virtual Management Tool

UTEC has delivered a bespoke Virtual Asset Management tool to an offshore Operator in Eastern Canada to allow its team to remotely access its floating, production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) from their desktop. The field, located offshore approximately 350 kilometers southeast of Newfoundland and Labrador contains one of the largest FPSO vessels ever built. At approximately the size of three football fields laid end to end the FPSO is over 290 meters long, more than 40 meters wide and more than 18 stories high.

Moog Focal has introduced the Quad Serial Server (QSS) module, which combines a 4-channel serial server with integrated 3-port Ethernet switch on a single 3U Eurocard to seamlessly integrate serial interface sensors with modern Ethernet-based control systems. It also enables transmission of Ethernet data over legacy serial telemetry links. The QSS has extra connectors for modular expansion, enabling the addition of more serial ports, 4-20 mA channels, and fault-tolerant CAN Bus interfaces.

Wind measurement experts gathered in London claimed that LiDARs have been replacing met masts to become the sole wind measurement tool used for offshore resource assessment and power curve verification purposes. These experts stated that LiDAR technology had over the years fully proven its ability to provide wind measurements as reliably as met masts. They also claimed that LiDARs are faster, easier and much cheaper to deploy, enabling significant development and operational cost reductions.

Pemex Jan crude output drops 10.6% from a year ago

Mexican national oil company Pemex produced 10.6 percent less crude oil in January than in the same month last year, the company said. January crude output averaged 2.02 million barrels per day (bpd), down from 2.26 million bpd during the same month in 2016, according to company data released on Friday. The Mexican government is in the midst of implementing a sweeping energy reform finalized in 2014 that ended the decades-long production monopoly enjoyed by Pemex, formally known as Petroleos Mexicanos.

World First: Unmanned Autonomous Boat for Offshore Ops

While talk of autonomous operations in the maritime sector have swirled for years, the talk becomes reality as Automated Ships Ltd. (an M Subs Ltd subsidiary) and Norway’s Kongsberg Maritime signed a Memorandum of Understanding to build the world’s first unmanned and fully-automated vessel for offshore operations. In January 2017, Automated Ships Ltd will contract the ‘Hrönn’, which will be designed and built in Norway in cooperation with KONGSBERG.

Fugro's Asset Integrity Program Monitors North Sea Platform

Fugro is marking a 35-year history of providing an asset integrity programme on one of the Ninian oil field platforms in the North Sea. Operator CNR International is working with Fugro to monitor the structural integrity of the Ninian Southern Platform (NSP) using a permanent online monitoring (OLM) system.
