Maersk Firm to Buy Wind Turbine Supplier

A.P. Moller Holding, which controls Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk will acquire Danish wind turbine supplier KK Group, it said on Wednesday, in a first step into the renewable energy industry.The acquisition marks a new direction for the family-owned company, which has built its business on the shipping and oil industry.The parties declined to disclose the price of the deal. A.P. Moller Holding will buy KK Group, whose main activities are through KK Wind Solutions, from Swedish private equity Solix Group."Denmark is the leading hub for the wind industry worldwide with significant global growth potential.

Mitcham Acquires L-3’s Klein Associates

Geophysical equipment supplier Mitcham Industries, Inc. has acquired L-3 Communications Klein Associates, Inc., a designer, manufacturer and worldwide distributor of sonar and waterside security systems to military and commercial customers, effective January 1, 2016. Klein, now renamed Klein Marine Systems, Inc., was a wholly-owned subsidiary of L-3 Communications Corporation, a provider of a broad range of communication and electronic systems and products used on military and commercial platforms, and a prime contractor in aerospace systems.

Underwater Center Debuts ROV Ops Training

A new model for increasing workforce competency in the ROV industry, using a realistic offshore instruction environment, was introduced by The Underwater Center at the Subsea UK ROV conference in Aberdeen. AEG to Power Seabourn’s Cruise Vessel

AEG Power Solutions, a global provider of power electronic systems and solutions for industrial power supplies and renewable energy applications, informed that Fincantieri S.p.A. has selected its power systems solutions to secure all critical loads applications on board Seabourn Encore, an ultra-luxury cruise ship that Fincantieri will build for Seabourn, a brand of Carnival Corporation. A combination of AC (Protect 8 and Protect 4) UPS and DC (Protect TPR) systems will be delivered to Fincantieri in December this year.

Triad, EMP Join Forces

As part of its product rollout strategy Eco Marine Power (EMP) announced today that it has signed a support agreement with Theodosiou Bros Ltd (TRIAD Ltd) of Piraeus, Greece. This agreement between EMP and TRIAD Ltd will lead to the establishment of a technical support hub in Greece from which the companies will be able to provide jointly, a variety of technical services related to EMP's products and solutions. In particular EMP and TRIAD Ltd will now be able to offer a wide range of services and solutions to shipping companies looking to include renewable energy solutions as part of their strategy to reduce vessel emissions and lower fuel costs.

Diesel-Electric Propulsion for Offshore

Long reserved for specialized applications such as icebreakers, diesel electric has enjoyed a rapid growth for marine propulsion in the past decade. Throughout that period, Cummins Marine has been a leader, supplying more than 900 diesel electric packages since delivering its first genset 2003. Early adopters of this flexible propulsion technology included the US firm Rigdon Marine with twenty vessels and France-based Bourbon Offshore with over 100 vessels. In late 2011 Aries Marine built two STX-designed Tiger Shark Class PSVs. After nine months operating in Mexico, one of their vessel engineers, Darrell Bickham, enthused over the performance.
