EIA: Permian Basin gas capacity will increase with the launch of Matterhorn pipeline

The U.S. Energy Information Administration said Tuesday that the Matterhorn Express Pipeline is expected to begin operating in this month. Matterhorn, in a joint venture between Whitewater, EnLink Midstream and MPLX will transport natural gases from the Permian basin to Katy, near Houston, Texas. The pipeline can transport 2.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day.

Drillers added 29 oil rigs in the week to Jan. 20, bringing the total count up to 551, the most since November 2015, energy services firm Baker Hughes Inc said on Friday.

U.S. February Shale Output to Grow

U.S. shale production is set to snap a three-month decline in February, the U.S. government said on Tuesday, as energy firms boost drilling activity with crude prices hovering near 18-month highs. The month-on-month increase in production would be the first since October and the third rise in a year, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration's drilling productivity report.

SM Energy to Shed Some Eagle Ford Assets

U.S. oil and gas producer SM Energy Co said on Tuesday it would sell certain assets in the Eagle Ford shale of South Texas to a unit of KKR for $800 million. The assets, operated by a third-party, include about 37,500 net acres and related pipeline infrastructure. The assets produced about 27,260 net boed (barrels of oil equivalent per day) in the third quarter of 2016, SM Energy said.
