BP Says Oil from North Sea Spill to Sisperse Naturally

A technical problem at BP's Clair platform in the North Sea resulted in a spill of 95 tonnes of oil that was allowed to disperse naturally into the sea, the British oil major said on Monday. Update: Oil Rig Aground off Scotland

No further pollution has been detected in the area of the grounded oil rig Transocean Winner as the U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) continues to monitor the scene. The MCA counter pollution surveillance aircraft yesterday flew over the location and surrounding area to make careful observations for pollution around the rig and the nearby coast and sea and no sheen or sign of pollution has been found.

Oil Rig Aground off Scotland May Have Leaked Diesel

Clyde Begins Work on O&G Safety Training Facility

Marine and offshore specialists, The Clyde Group announced that construction work has begun on its $5 million training center in Clydebank, Greater Glasgow, for the newly established Clyde Training Solutions. The facility is the first of its kind in Central and Southern Scotland and is due to be completed in the autumn of 2016. The center will provide mandatory and safety courses for the oil and gas and marine industries.

Crew Rescued from Wind Farm Vessel Fire

A crewman has been airlifted to James Paget University Hospital this morning after a fire on board a 17-meter wind farm support vessel, Norfolk Tern, four nautical miles off Great Yarmouth, the U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency reported. Seafarers’ Legislation Faces Year-Long Ratification Delay

Full ratification of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) which will have far reaching implications for the whole shipping industry, including commercial yachts, is now likely to be delayed by a year until April 2012. “Although the required gross tonnage figure has been reached there is, however, some doubt as to whether the necessary number of countries will be achieved by the end of this year,” said John Wade, technical services manager with Isle of Man-based Dominion Marine.
