NJ Governor Doubles Offshore Wind Goal

As New Jersey steps up efforts to eliminate fossil fuels over the next three decades, the state is more than doubling its target for offshore-wind energy production under an executive order signed by Gov. Renewables to Generate 50% of NY's Electricity by 2030

The New York State Public Service Commission has approved New York’s Clean Energy Standard, which will require 50 percent of New York's electricity to come from renewable energy sources like wind and solar by 2030, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced. The plan will see an aggressive phase-in schedule over the next several years. In its initial phase, utilities and other energy suppliers will be required to procure and phase in new renewable power resources starting with 26.31 percent of the state's total electricity load in 2017 and grow to 30.54 percent of the statewide total in 2021.

Australia - A Gas Giant Abroad but Fragile at Home

A new Government report on the Australian gas market highlights the need for Government policy action to provide a ‘level playing field’ for gas. Gas Market Report 2015 released today by the Chief Economist of the Department of Industry Innovation and Science predicts significant international opportunities for Australian gas, but a domestic gas market which is vulnerable. Energy Networks Association CEO, John Bradley, said the rapid transformation in the gas market made it essential that Australia’s domestic gas customers were protected by good energy and carbon policy.

Leo DiCaprio Joins Movement to Divest from Fossil Fuels

Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio on Tuesday joined more than 400 institutions and 2,000 individuals who have promised to divest from fossil fuels, as new research showed commitments now cover assets of $2.6 trillion. The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has executed a wind energy research lease with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME), BOEM announced today.
