HazSub Spill Response Plans

On August 18, 1990, the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA 90) was enacted into law. Section 4202 of that Act amended the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (FWPCA or Clean Water Act) to require tank vessels and marine transportation-related facilities to prepare and submit to the US Coast Guard plans for responding, to the maximum extent practicable, to a worse case discharge, and to a substantial threat of such a discharge, of oil or a hazardous substance carried in bulk as cargo.

Crowley Acquires Jones Act Tankers

Crowley Maritime Corp. took delivery of Ohio, the first of four new, Jones Act, product tankers this week from Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc. (APSI), the wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of Aker Philadelphia Shipyard ASA. The delivery is momentous not only for Crowley, but also for the industry because it signifies the first time a product tanker has been constructed with consideration for the future use of LNG for propulsion. The remaining three product tankers being built by APSI for Crowley are currently under construction and have planned deliveries through 2016.

Doyle Named to Training and Competency Working Group

The United State Maritime Research Center (USMRC) in Middletown, Rhode Island said that Margaret Kaigh Doyle was named the U.S. vice chairperson of the Training and Competency Working Group for the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF). Stalwart Tankers Postpones U.S. IPO

Greece-based chemical transportation company Stalwart Tankers Inc has postponed its U.S. IPO plans due to "market conditions," an underwriter told Reuters. The company filed with U.S. regulators in February to raise up to $100 million in an IPO of its common stock. Stalwart Tankers later said it expected to price its IPO of 12.5 million common shares at between $11 and $13 per share.
