Swedegas Renewable Gas Bunkering at Gothenburg Port
Swedegas, the owner of the gas grid in Sweden, conducted the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation at its new facility at the Port of Gothenburg.Gothenburg-based shipping company Terntank was the very first operator to take on LNG at a new bunkering facility, said the Swedish owner and operator of the high-pressure gas grid. Not only liquefied natural gas, LNG, but also liquefied biogas, LBG, it added.“Being able to offer this unique opportunity represents a major breakthrough…
New DNV GL Tool Safeguards Increasingly Greener Gas Supply
DNV GL is now launching an online pipeline gas quality calculator, the ‘PKI Methane Number Calculator for Pipeline Gas’, to ensure that the end-user can reliably and safely use the gas being distributed. The chemical composition of fuel in the natural gas grid is becoming more diverse due to globalization of energy supply and the drive towards introducing renewable gases. Mismatching fuel quality to a given engine can cause engine knock, which can compromise engine performance and lead to engine shutdown.
Lithuania Puts Plans to Import LNG From US On Hold
Lithuania has put plans to buy liquefied natural gas from the United States on hold because the LNG is not yet suitable for the Baltic state's gas system, its state energy company said on Wednesday. Lithuania's system was built to use Russian gas and state energy group Lietuvos Energija said U.S. LNG was much more calorific than Russian gas. The country opened an LNG import terminal in the Baltic Sea at the end of 2014, which allowed it to start importing from Norway and end its total dependence on gas imports from its former Soviet master, Russia. "We are not buying gas from the U.S.
New Rubber Compound for Tug Fenders
Trelleborg’s marine systems operation has launched a new High Performance Super Abrasion Resistant (HPSAR) tug fender, which utilizes an innovative, superior rubber compound. The application of this distinctive and improved compound not only significantly increases the service life of the fender, but also gives the fender a lower density than traditional solutions, contributing to reduced weight and increasing potential savings. Richard Hepworth, President of Trelleborg’s marine systems operation, says: “Tugs may be fitted with up to four types of fender, each of which serves a particular purpose.
New Definitions Needed for Condensate, Gas Liquids
"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet," William Shakespeare wrote in "Romeo and Juliet". But he was not working for the U.S. government and trying to define what constitutes condensate and natural gas liquids. A simple and workable definition might have baffled even the undisputed master of the English language. In the world of condensates and natural gas liquids, a rose is never just a rose, and producing simple and consistent definitions has eluded federal regulators. OPEC, which includes crude but not condensate in its production quotes…
Neste Oil Seeks to Cash in on EU Renewables Targets, Russia Tensions
Finnish refiner Neste Oil said its biofuel business stands to gain from higher EU renewable energy targets and Europe's attempt to reduce reliance on Russian oil and gas. The company, which has three plants in Porvoo, Finland, Rotterdam and Singapore, is one of the world's top producers of a high-quality biodiesel and has become a bellwether for global demand for renewable fuel. European Union members have set a target of sourcing 20 percent of their energy consumption from renewable sources including biodiesel, wind, solar and hydro power by 2020.
