Pullback in Fracking Sand Use Pressures Producers
U.S. shale oil companies are pulling back on the amount of sand they use to hydraulically fracture new wells, responding to rising prices of the material that are driving up costs. Investors worry a slowdown in sand use, combined with new mining capacity coming online, could lead to a glut of the material and bring down prices. The worries have pressured shares of sand companies. Sand prices soared in the last year as oil companies ramped up shale drilling and production. But with crude prices below where they started the year, oil producers are…
Jee to Support Enhanced Oil Recovery Project
Aberdeen based Jee Ltd, an independent multi-discipline subsea engineering and training firm, has been awarded a contract from Amec Foster Wheeler for the front end engineering design (FEED) of a jacket rigid polymer injection riser package (including J-tubes) as part of an enhanced oil recovery (EOR) field development. The pilot project will demonstrate the use of polymer chemical injection technology, a new technique to maximize the economic recovery of UK hydrocarbon reserves. On the project, Amec Foster Wheeler will engineer a new bridge-linked platform which will be tied into existing facilities and utilized to store, mix and pump the polymer.
