Norwegian oil firm Equinor, with partners Progress Resources and Repsol, has made an oil discovery in the Monument exploration well in the US Gulf of Mexico.The Monument exploration well found approximately 200 feet (c. 60 meters) of net oil pay with good reservoir characteristics in Paleogene sandstone. Tropical Storm Barry formed on Thursday with heavy rains expected across the north-central U.S. Gulf Coast, the National Hurricane Center said.Barry, the second named storm of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season, was located about 95 miles (150 kilometers) south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River at about 11 a.m. EDT with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles (65 km) per hour, the Miami-based weather forecaster said. Oklahoma Imposes Water Injection Cut Rules
Oklahoma regulators are imposing new restrictions on energy companies injecting wastewater underground, in the latest effort to stem a sharp increase in earthquakes. The new rules, announced by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission on Monday evening, require operators in parts of two Oklahoma counties to reduce the amount of saltwater they inject underground by 38 percent from current levels in the next 60 days. The reduction will bring injected volumes to about 2.4 million barrels below those in 2012, when the most dramatic spike in the area earthquakes began.
2H Offshore Awarded Hess and Enbridge Verification Contracts
2H Offshore, an Acteon company, has been awarded two separate contracts, one by Hess Corp. (Hess) and a second contract by Enbridge Energy Co. (Enbridge), to verify the design, fabrication and installation phases of the Steel Catenary Risers (SCRs) for the Stampede field development in the Gulf of Mexico. The Stampede field is operated by Hess. Enbridge plans to build, own and operate the oil export pipeline from the Stampede tension leg platform (TLP). The subsea development is situated in Green Canyon blocks 468, 511 and 512 in the central U.S.

The White House yesterday awarded three NOAA scientists with Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers.
