Offshore Wind Conference Set for SUNY Maritime

Worley Wins Rhode Island OWF Contract

Denmark's offshore wind giant Ørsted has awarded WorleyParsons a core role in its Revolution Wind project, which will see the design and installation of a 700-megawatt offshore wind farm, located 15 kilometers south of the Rhode Island coast.The project, which commenced in March 2019, with installation expected in 2022, will see Worley complete the engineering and design of two offshore wind topside substations.For the project, Worley said it devised a unique approach that drew upon a combination of our digital, new energy and offshore hydrocarbons expertise.

McDermott Winds FEED for Scarborough FPU

McDermott International, Inc. on Tuesday announced it has signed a contract with Woodside Energy Ltd. to undertake a front-end engineering and design (FEED) activities for a floating production unit (FPU) for the Scarborough field natural gas development in Western Australia.McDermott’s center of excellence in The Hague, Netherlands, will lead the study and early engineering. Liberty Wins North Sea Pipe Contract

The Liberty pipe mills at Hartlepool has been awarded a multimillion-dollar contract to supply steel pipeline for North Sea gas.The mills, which were acquired and relaunched by Liberty, part of Sanjeev Gupta’s GFG Alliance, in late 2017, have just begun making the first batch of a total order for 12,000 metric tons of 24” steel pipe from global engineers Subsea7, that will be used in the Shell Shearwater gas field over 200 miles off the coast of Scotland.Over the next few months workers at Hartlepool will make around 22 miles of heavy-duty pipe that will lie 90 meters under the sea…

Arctic LNG 2, Siemens Sign Deal

Russian gas producer Novatek said that it had signed a deal with German tech giant Siemens to buy compressors for its new Arctic LNG 2 natural gas liquefaction plant.Novatek's second LNG export facility after Yamal LNG, the 19.8 million mt/year Arctic LNG-2 project is moving closer to the reality after this deal.The scope of supply under the contract includes three feed gas compressors and six boil-off gas compressors. Proserv Unveils New Facility in Great Yarmouth

Energy services company Proserv officially opened its new purpose-built Center of Excellence today within Great Yarmouth’s Beacon Park.Developer, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, together with New Anglia LEP and key stakeholders, joined Proserv at the 65,000 sq ft ‘Artemis House’ – named after the site’s ‘Artemis 2G’ (A2G) subsea control system technology - to mark the occasion with a ribbon cutting ceremony.Artemis House is the largest site within Beacon Park, featuring modern offices, 25 percent additional manufacturing space and a yard area.

Aker Solutions Upgrades Aberdeen Site

Aker Solutions today officially opens its upgraded Aberdeen services facility to help capture subsea sector growth in the UK and elsewhere. Demand is increasing globally for services at oil and gas fields offshore, including in the UK. Energy companies are seeking to maximize production and returns from existing assets and infrastructure amid tighter budgets. "Our investment in the Aberdeen services base demonstrates our commitment to the North Sea, a mature basin where we see opportunities," said Sian Lloyd Rees, Aker Solutions’ UK country manager.

Proserv Opening New Subsea Tech Center

Energy services company Proserv informs it is investing in a new purpose-built technology center for subsea controls and communications in Great Yarmouth. The move will see around 190 employees consolidate from two sites in the area into the new 65,000 sq ft Beacon Park site in Gorleston-on-Sea which will feature modern office, manufacturing and yard space and provides the flexibility to add a further 20,000 sq ft of workshop capacity. Construction will commence next month with the building expected to be completed during March 2018. David Lamont, Proserv CEO, said, “This is great news for the whole of Proserv but especially the team in Great Yarmouth.

Statoil's Digitalization Drive

Statoil is establishing a digital center of excellence and launching a roadmap with seven specific programs for digitalization in the company towards 2020. Towards 2020 Statoil expects to invest $120 to $240 million in new digital technologies, accelerating the digital roadmap work. Digital technologies will also be part of other Statoil technology and research projects. “Aiming to be a global digital leader within our core areas, we are now stepping up our efforts to capture opportunities provided by the rapid development within digital technologies,” said Eldar Sætre, Statoil’s CEO.

McDermott Opens Office in Saudi Arabia

McDermott International, Inc. announced it has opened a new office in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, with the ability to add 300 staff to its existing workforce in the nation. Technip to Supply Reformer for STAR Hydrogen Plant

Technip has been awarded a lump sum contract to supply its proprietary technology, detailed engineering and procurement services for a reformer for a hydrogen plant. The plant is located near the STAR Aegean Refinery to be built in Izmir, Aliaga, Turkey. The reformer, which is the heart of a hydrogen plant, will produce 160,000 Nm3/h(1) of hydrogen product and high quality export steam to be used by the refinery. DNV GL to Open Explosion Test Site in the UK

DNV GL, a technical advisor to the global oil and gas industry, is building a new conference center and large-scale fire and explosion demonstration area at their unique major hazard testing and research center in Cumbria, U.K. The new training facility, which aims to enhance experiential learning for the oil and gas, chemical and security industries, is due to be completed in December 2015. The testing and research center is the largest facility of its kind in the U.K. and features some of the world's most advanced destructive and nondestructive test facilities, DNV GL said.

Three NOAA scientists honored by White House

The White House yesterday awarded three NOAA scientists with Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers. The award is the highest honor given by the federal government to outstanding scientists and engineers in the early stages of their careers. Laboratory. Maersk and U.S. Navy Collaborate on Biofuels

Maersk and the U.S. Navy collaborate on biofuel initiative. Maersk and the U.S. Navy are testing algae-based biofuel on the container ship Maersk Kalmar. The ship is en route from Northern Europe to India. Maersk Kalmar has two key attributes that make it a suitable vessel for biofuel testing. The 300 meter-long container ship has a dedicated auxiliary test engine, which reduces the risks of testing, and its fuels system has a special biofuel blending equipment and separate tanks. In October 2010, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus visited Maersk headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark and learned of energy conservation initiatives across Maersk’s fleet of over 1,300 vessels.
