INPEX Selects NAPA for LNG Carrier Fleet

New Bulk Carrier Design Puts Ecoships in the Lotus Position

Ecoships, the technical shipmanagement arm of Newport Shipping Group, has introduced a next generation bulk carrier design, developed to set the standard in ecologically compatible marine transportation. Inspired by the low friction to water flow and self-cleaning properties of the lotus flower – a symbol of purity and beauty in Buddhist and Hindu philosophy –  Ecoships’ Greenlotus 32, is a 32,500dwt geared, wide hatched, handy-size bulker, designed to meet existing and future CO2 (carbon dioxide) NOx (oxides of nitrogen) and SOx (oxides of sulphur) emissions regulations.

Braemar Engineering in Tie-up with Nigeria LNG

Braemar Engineering  announced that it has been appointed to act as Shipping Consultants to Bonny Gas Transport, the wholly owned subsidiary of Nigeria LNG (NLNG) responsible for the transport of NLNG’s output over the Atlantic to Europe and the Americas. Braemar Engineering will oversee the building of six LNG carriers, from design to delivery, with completion of the project anticipated at the end of 2016. Steel cutting on the first of the project’s LNG carriers took place on April 25 at Samsung’s Geoje shipyard in South Korea. Four of the vessels are being built by Samsung and two by Hyundai.

Gas Turbine-Powered LNG Carrier Joint Design Announced

GE Marine, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC) and Lloyd’s Register announce they have jointly developed a design for a gas turbine-powered LNG carrier. This unique carrier will provide low life cycle cost, high environmental performance and flexible design. The initial LNG carrier design will be built around a GE gas turbine-based COGES (COmbined Gas turbine Electric and Steam) system that will feature one 25-megawatt gas turbine, one steam turbine generator-set and two dual-fuel diesel generator-sets for low power operation and backup.
