Lithuanian officials see a 'high probability' of Baltic Sea cables being intentionally cut
Gitanas Nuseda, the Lithuanian President said that it was highly likely that the two fibre-optic cables undersea that were damaged in the Baltic Sea last month were intentionally cut. After being damaged on November 17-18, both cables, one connecting Finland with Germany and the second connecting Sweden and Lithuania were repaired and back online. Nauseda, a reporter at the time, said that there was a high probability of this being a malicious activity. He added that there was no proof to show the damage was intentional.

NYK conducts third successful biofuel trial on ship carrying Tata Steel cargoThe bulk carrier Frontier Sky, which is owned by NYK and operated by Tata NYK Shipping Pte. Ltd., conducted a trial use of biofuel to transport cargo provided by Tata Steel Limited, the major steel manufacturer in India. Burning petcoke cargo on ship holds up Venezuela exports
Venezuela's exports of petroleum coke, derived from the country's heavy oil, have been halted at its Petrosanfelix terminal since last week due to a burning cargo on a ship, according to a source and documents seen by Reuters on Friday. The bulk carrier Top Trader was receiving the load from state-run PDVSA when burning petroleum coke was noticed in three of its containers, according to the source and written communication between the vessel's captain, charterer U.S. Koch Industries and the ship broker.

NYK Acquires Coal Carrier
On September 25, a new 100,000 deadweight tonnage coal carrier ordered by NYK Bulkship (Asia) Pte. Ltd., an NYK Group subsidiary company based in Singapore, was delivered at Oshima Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. (Saikai city, Nagasaki prefecture). A delivery and naming ceremony was held at the shipyard on the same day and attended by NYK senior managing corporate officer Masahiro Samitsu and representatives from Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc. Tenryu Maru is the first coal carrier to be jointly owned by a power company and a shipping company.
British Columbia: Oil Spill Response shows Unprepared for More Tankers
British Columbian officials on Friday criticized the Canadian government's response to an oil spill in the waters around Vancouver, calling into question plans for new crude oil export pipelines in the Pacific Coast province. Nearly 3,000 liters of oil spilled after an anchored bulk carrier began leaking bunker fuel in English Bay, just west of Vancouver's downtown core, on Wednesday. Officials in the province said the coast guard responded but was slow to contain the slick, which spread towards beaches.
