Seastar Wind Farm Connected to Elia's MOG

Belgium’s high-voltage transmission system operator Elia has informed said that the connection of the Seastar offshore wind farm marked the completion of Elia’s offshore power hub Modular Offshore Grid (MOG), Located 40 km off the Belgian coast, the Modular Offshore Grid switching platform bundles together the export cables from four offshore wind farms and transports the generated energy to the mainland via a shared transmission systemThe MOG has been operational since September 2019, when it was connected to the Rentel wind farm.

Siemens Gamesa Firms Belgian Offshore Wind Project

Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) received the order for the 487 MW SeaMade offshore wind power project in Belgium from customer Seamade NV.The wind turbines and services provider said that it includes supply and commissioning of 58 units of the SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbine and a 17-year Service agreement. Nexans Wins Cable Contract for Northwester 2 Wind Farm

Nexans said it will supply a subsea power cable and associated accessories for the 219 MW Northwester 2 wind farm 46 km offshore from Zeebrugge, Belgium.The French based company has been awarded a contract from Northwester 2 developer Parkwind to design, manufacture and test the submarine power export cable for the offshore wind farm.The Northwester 2 wind farm comprises 23 turbines. It will be the seventh wind farm to be constructed off the Belgian coast and the first worldwide to feature the record-setting 9.5 MW V164 turbine manufactured by MHI Vestas.

Prysmian Secures Rentel Wind Farm Work

Prysmian Group has been awarded a contract - worth up to 13 M euro - by Tideway B.V. for the Rentel offshore wind farm project. Rentel N.V. was founded by a consortium of Belgian specialists in renewable energy, who have joined forces to develop, finance and operate the Rentel offshore wind project, which holds a 309 MW offshore wind concession in the Belgian North Sea. The Rentel wind farm is located approximately 34 km from the Port of Zeebrugge and approximately 40 km from Oostende off the Belgian coast.

Offshore Tests Prove Thunderstorm Detector’s Efficiency

Meteorological product specialist Biral has created a solution that aims to improve the safety of offshore operations since introducing its BTD-300 Thunderstorm Detection equipment. The detector can be used across multiple industries and has proved to be a particularly effective device for offshore operations as confirmed by the results of a North Sea application, the developer said. Biral supplied the BTD-300 to Cofely Fabricom – GDF Suez to install the system on a substation for the C-Power Thorntonbank wind farm 33 kilometers off the Belgian Coast.
