Oil minister: India will be a refining hub and will rely on fossil fuels up to 2040.

Hardeep Singh Puri, India's Oil Minister, said on Tuesday that India will continue to be the world's third largest oil consumer and importer until at least 2040. The country is also positioning itself to become a major refining center. Puri, speaking at a Bengaluru refining conference, said that while global refineries are shrinking as the energy transition proceeds at an unpredictable rate, India will still rely on fossils fuels up until 2040.

Engie Crosses 1.5 GW Renewable Capacity in India

French power group Engie’s total renewable capacity in India now exceeds 1.5 GW. The company recently bagged a 200 MW onshore wind project in the state of Gujarat from Solar Energy Corporation of India.ENGIE is all set to sign a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Federal Government entity, SECI.Earlier, Engie won a 280 MWp solar project from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited. The project—part of the Raghanesda solar park—is currently under development.

APM Terminals JV Inks AP Solar Project Deal

APM Terminals Inland Services, South Asia has signed a contract with Mahindra Susten to provide exclusive Third Party Logistics (3PL) services in India for an upcoming 260 mw solar power project in Andhra Pradesh (AP). The 3PL offering will provide an integrated logistics management solution to Mahindra Susten for the two thousand nine hundred TEU containers of solar panels being imported from China to India through the Port of Chennai.

Cairn India's 1Q Net Profit Drops 28%

Oil explorer Cairn India Ltd , controlled by billionaire Anil Agarwal, said on Thursday consolidated net profit in the first quarter of its business year fell 28 percent from the same period a year ago due to lower crude oil prices. The crude oil and gas producer, with assets in Rajasthan state's Barmer basin, Andhra Pradesh's Ravva basin and Gujarat's Cambay basin, reported April-June profit of 3.6 billion rupees ($53.61 million).

Krishnapatnam Power Corpn, AP Govt Ink Power Project Deal

The Hyderabad-based CVR group led Krishnapatnam Power Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to build 2780 MW (3X660 MW & 1X800 MW) capacity of thermal power projects with an estimated investment of Rs. 16, 680 crore. The project is located on the coastal region of Bay of Bengal in Tamminapatnam Mommidi revenue Panchayat villages, proximate to Krishnapatnam Port, in SPS Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh.

Shell Plans Second LNG Terminal in India

The Hague-based global energy giant Royal Dutch Shell is planning to establish a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility on the east coast of India at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. Shell already has a 5 million tonne LNG terminal at Hazira in Gujarat set up nearly a decade back. The Hazira Terminal includes a LNG storage and re-gasification terminal within a fully functional port.

Shell, GDF Take Stakes in Floating LNG Terminal

Europe's largest oil company Royal Dutch Shell and French firm GDF Suez are likely to take 26 percent stake each in GAIL India Ltd’s proposed ‘floating LNG import terminal’ at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh Gas Distribution Corp (APGDC) – a joint venture of GAIL Gas and Andhra Pradesh Gas Infrastructure Corp (APGIC) will have the remaining 48% share. Shell, GDF and GAIL on Thursday also signed an agreement to procure LNG for the project.

Shell Joins India LNG Project with Raised Stake

Royal Dutch Shell Plc will take a 26 percent stake in the planned Kakinada liquefied natural gas terminal on the east coast, an official at partner Indian gas firm GAIL said, slightly higher than previously proposed. Gaz de France already has a 26 percent stake in the project, while Andhra Pradesh Gas Distribution Company in which GAIL Gas, a subsidiary of GAIL (India), has a stake will have the remaining 48 percent share.

Port Congestion Impacts Indian Coal Imports

India's coal imports fell 9 percent to 15.33 million tonnes in October from a month ago as cyclone Hudhud exacerbated congestion at some ports, according to provisional data from online trader mjunction. Shipments into the world's third largest coal importer are, however, expected to jump to as much as 17 million tonnes this month due to lower international prices and as fuel-starved power companies order more.

Coal India Unit Shuts Three Mines after Protests

Mahanadi Coalfields, a unit of Coal India Ltd, has stopped operations at three mines in the eastern state of Odisha following protests by locals over company plans to relocate them to make way for planned mine expansion. More than 100 families are campaigning against the company's plan to shift them about 15 km from their homes around the mines, a company spokesman and a government officer told Reuters on Friday.

Fire at Tatipaka-Lanco Pipeline of GAIL in K.G. Basin

A fire broke out early today along a natural gas pipeline of GAIL (India) Limited at Tatipaka in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Fifteen casualties have happened and eighteen injured are being treated in four hospitals in the vicinity. The fire started at around 5:45 AM today along the Tatipaka – Lanco natural gas pipeline, approximately 50 metres from ONGC’s Tatipaka terminal and about 500 metres from the GAIL terminal.

Nordic Clinches $23.5m Offshore Seismic Contract

Singapore-based offshore specialist Nordic Maritime has been awarded a $23.5 million contract to provide 3D marine seismic data acquisition and processing services off the coast of Andhra Pradesh, India, to Cairn India Limited, starting later this month. The contract will see Nordic Maritime collaborate with SCF Geo of Russia and will feature that group’s seismic survey vessel Vyacheslav Tikhonov. The Vyacheslav Tikhonov will survey approximately 1,000 sq km of ocean bed.

Wison to Build LNG Regasification Barge

Wison Offshore & Marine has announced  the award of a binding agreement with Vessel Gasification Solutions (VGS) of New Jersey, U.S.A., for the supply of the industry's first barge-based floating LNG regasification unit (FRU) to be installed offshore India. The FRU, which will be owned by VGS, will consist of a newbuild, non-propelled barge equipped to perform the regasification and send out of a maximum of 1,000MMscf/d of gas.
