Morrison, iSIMS Introduce iJacket

Chet Morrison Contractors, an energy service company for the oil, gas and renewables industries, has formed a strategic partnership with iSIMS to launch a new optimized method in jacket and foundation design.The patented iJacket is more structurally optimized than the conventional true X-braced jacket design, supporting the same deck load, conductor/riser count, drilling deck, wind turbine or other payload as its conventional counterpart, the developers said. Scientists Turn to Big Data in Hunt for Minerals, Oil and Gas

Scientists searching for everything from oil and gas to copper and gold are adopting techniques used by companies such as Netflix or Amazon to sift through vast amounts of data, a study showed on Tuesday. The method has already helped to discover 10 carbon-bearing minerals and could be widely applied to exploration, they wrote in the journal American Mineralogist. "Big data points to new minerals, new deposits," they wrote of the findings. The technique goes beyond traditional geology by amassing data about how and where minerals have formed, for instance by the cooling of lava after volcanic eruptions.

Statoil is establishing a digital center of excellence and launching a roadmap with seven specific programs for digitalization in the company towards 2020. Towards 2020 Statoil expects to invest $120 to $240 million in new digital technologies, accelerating the digital roadmap work. Digital technologies will also be part of other Statoil technology and research projects. “Aiming to be a global digital leader within our core areas, we are now stepping up our efforts to capture opportunities provided by the rapid development within digital technologies,” said Eldar Sætre, Statoil’s CEO.

Israeli Shipping Data Firm to Enter Commodities Game

Analysts say intelligent analytics could give firm an edge. A young Israeli technology company believes the expertise it has built up in tracking ships for governments and security agencies could help it break into the much larger market for providing information on seaborne commodities.
