China hosts private companies to discuss US tariffs

April 8, 2025

China's State Planner said Tuesday that it met with private companies in China, including Trina Solar and ride-hailing service Didi, as well as Goertek to get suggestions on how to handle additional U.S. Tariffs.

Zheng Shanjie was present at the meeting in Beijing, on 8 April, according to a state planner's statement. He is chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission.

China has vowed to not bow down to "blackmail" by the United States, after Trump threatened to increase tariffs on U.S. imported goods from the No. On Wednesday, the U.S. threatened to increase tariffs on imports from China by more than 100%.

The move was a response to Beijing's decision last week to match the'reciprocal duties' Trump had announced.

NDRC reported that during the meeting, companies expressed their opinions and made suggestions about stabilising employment in China as well as how to deal with external challenges and risks.

The report stated that "the domestic development environment is stable, and the companies are confident of overcoming difficulties."

Zheng stated that "in the face of external challenges and risks such as the imposition by the United States of tariffs, we must unify the thinking and action with the decision-making."

It said that the NDRC would actively assist private companies in resolving difficulties and promote a healthy, high-quality growth of China's economy. Reporting by Farah master and the Beijing Newsroom; editing by Tom Hogue, Muralikumar Anantharaman
