Chernyshov, CEO of Naftogaz Ukraine, appointed as deputy PM for new ministry

The Ukrainian parliament approved Oleksiy Cernyshov, the CEO of state-owned oil and gas company Naftogaz as deputy premier to head a newly created ministry for national unification as the third anniversary of Ukraine's full-scale war against Russia approaches.

Chernyshov is a 47-year-old man who has been leading Naftogaz since 2022. He was also the minister for regional development from 2020 to 2022.

No other candidates were considered. Several lawmakers claim that 237 members supported Chernyshov.

The company involved in gas transit would be temporarily headed by the interim chairman. During the invasion, Russian long-range missiles have repeatedly attacked its infrastructure.

A competition must be held prior to the vote of the supervisory board to determine the new CEO.

Chernyshov's new Ministry of National Unity is yet to be defined in terms of its direct functions.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the President of Ukraine, announced in the fall plans to establish the organization. He said that it would be responsible for improving communication with millions of Ukrainians who have fled abroad seeking safety, mainly women and children.
