Caterpillar To Launch New CAT® CG137-8 Generator Set
Caterpillar Oil & Gas will unveil the new Cat CG137-8 natural gas generator set at the Bismarck Civic Center in Bismarck, North Dakota during the 2014 Williston Basin Petroleum Conference now in progress from May 20 – 22nd. The new Cat CG137-8 generator set provides 282 ekW (352 kVA), 60 Hz @ 1800 rpm of rated power, offering customers an additional power node to complement existing Cat power solutions in land production applications. The CG137-8 generator set will now be available to order from the global Cat dealer network.
“The CG137-8 generator set power node is a great addition to the proven Cat G3306B (135 ekW) and CG137-12 (400 ekW) oilfield generator sets, Russ Goss, Caterpillar (CAT) Oil & Gas new product introduction project manager said. “This range of offerings and their tolerance of high BTU-content fuels provide customers the ability to select the ideal amount of power required for their unique applications.”
The Cat CG137-8 is a V12, 4-stroke-cycle generator set offering fuel flexibility enabling operation on a wide range of gas quality – from wellhead gas to pipeline quality natural gas. The generator set features superior gas engine transient capability as well as the ADEM™ A4 control system providing integrated ignition, speed control, and engine protection. Both the component design and fuel flexibility allow minimum site preparation and low installation cost. The generator set is NSPS site compliant capable when configured with customer-supplied air-fuel ratio control and a three-way catalyst.
Cat dealers Butler Cat and Tractor & Equipment Company will both have booths showcasing Cat oil & gas offerings at the Willison Basin Petroleum Conference. Both dealers proudly serve and support the growing North Dakota oilfields. On display at the Butler Cat booth (#12 & 13) will be the first Cat CG137-8 generator set manufactured as well as the Cat WS273XD, a 2700 bhp triplex pressure pump. Tractor & Equipment Company will be exhibiting at booth #307.

The Cat WS273XD is a triplex well stimulation pump with 2700 bhp (2014 bKW) input power and 275 maximum rpm. The complete Cat well stimulation pump product portfolio consists of four well stimulation pumps in triplex and quintuplex configurations in a standard, Extreme Duty (XD) series or Stainless Steel (SS) series. The Cat well stimulation pumps feature fluid ends and power ends designed to an industry standard footprint, allowing customers to easily fit the Cat pump into their existing trailer designs. In addition to the standard fluid ends, Caterpillar offers an XD fluid end with superior durability for the harshest operating conditions as well as stainless steel fluid ends which are compatible with all Cat XD series components.
