Brazil Regulator:Tycoon Batista Manipulated Market

Posted by March 18, 2015

Brazil's securities regulator said on Wednesday that former billionaire Eike Batista misled the market about shares in power company MPX, now called Eneva SA, as his EBX energy, mining, port and shipbuilding empire collapsed in 2013.

The regulator, known as the CVM, fined Batista 300,000 reais ($93,000) because responses to media reports about a takeover by Germany's E.ON were not clear enough. The case was one of several cases to be decided on Wednesday regarding current and former EBX companies.
