Bosch plans to generate billions of dollars in revenue from hydrogen by starting production of electrolyser components

March 26, 2025

Bosch announced on Wednesday that it will start producing electrolyser parts for hydrogen production and expects its hydrogen business revenue to reach billions of Euros by 2030.

Germany is looking to increase its reliance on hydrogen for future energy sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from highly polluting industries that can't be electrified, such as steel or chemicals. It also wants to reduce the dependency on fossil fuel imports.

Hydrogen is made by electrolysers that use energy to split water into hydrogen. Bosch will use its large-scale production expertise and fuel-cell knowledge to produce hydrogen more efficiently and cheaper.

Bosch announced that it will be showcasing two new Hybrion PEM Electrolysis stacks at the Hanover Industry Fair. The stacks, which are being produced in partnership with industrial supplier FEST, have a system output of 2.5 Megawatts.

Markus Heyn said that "Hydrogen represents a strategic growth area for Bosch. We expect sales revenues to reach billions of dollars by 2030."

Hybrion stacks are initially manufactured in a Bamberg factory, with official sales of the components beginning in April. Bosch said that it had already received orders for around 100 megawatts. (Reporting from Riham Alkousaa, Ilona Knowbach)
