Air Liquide and TotalEnergies invest over 1 billion Euros in green hydrogen projects
Air Liquide, a French industrial gas company, announced on Tuesday a joint venture with TotalEnergies, a French oil giant. The two companies will develop in the Netherlands two large-scale low-carbon hydrogen plants.
Air Liquide said in a press release that the two projects represented a combined investment totaling more than 1 billion euro ($1.05 billion).
TotalEnergies wind farms will supply the first project in Rotterdam. It is expected to start operation by the end of 2027.
This represents an investment of approximately 600 million Euros for each partner. Both partners have requested support through European and national subsidies programmes.
Both companies announced a joint venture with equal shares to build a 250MW electrolyser in the province of Zeeland.
Emilie Morren-Renouard is the Air Liquide Europe Operations Manager. She said: "Flagship Projects such as those we announce today will play an important role in reducing emission, especially in sectors that are hard to reduce, such as heavy industry and mobility."
TotalEnergies said that these projects would reduce CO2 emissions at its refineries in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany by up to 450 000 metric tons per year. Reporting by Alban Kachler Editing by David Goodman
