3sun Group has secured a contract extension with Siemens to provide offshore wind turbine installation services in the U.K. until 2016.

3sun Group has been working with Siemens since 2009, on work totalling around £15 million in the U.K. This two year contract extension further underpins the relationship, and involves the company providing technicians for the offshore installation of Siemens turbines.

Andrew Elmes, Renewables Director of 3sun Group said: “This contract highlights our strong ties with Siemens. Renewal of this contract is in recognition of our high value, complete service offering to the offshore wind industry, from inspection and installation, to service and maintenance, and where the high standards of training and the professionalism of our personnel make us the preferred supplier to the market leader.

“We are currently supporting Siemens through the installation of Gwynt y Mor project, one of the largest wind farms in construction in the world and due to be completed this year, and DONG Energy’s West of Duddon Sands which will be complete in 2015.”

3sun Group currently work with Siemens in the U.K., Denmark and Germany, onshore and offshore, and has participated in some of the most notable projects in the industry such as Griffin Forest, Greater Gabbard and London Array, currently the world’s largest offshore wind farm.

Lee Andrews, Head of Siemens U.K. Site Installation Offshore said, “We are delighted to renew our turbine installation contract with 3sun. Together with Siemens own installation technicians, they supply some of the highest-quality and best trained and equipped technicians in the industry and they have repeatedly shown that they understand our expectations, our safety culture and our policies. In the five years that 3sun has supported Siemens' offshore projects, they have remained great to work with; approachable and very open. That’s what we want from our suppliers."

Upcoming work is planned for installation of 35 Siemens 6MW turbines in the North Sea on Westermost Rough project, the first time that these turbines will be used on a commercial scale anywhere in the world.  Elsewhere, for Siemens in Germany, the group is currently installing Dan Tysk project and gearing up to support Riffgrund and Baltic 2 projects.
