3sun Group, a specialist provider of products and services to the global energy industry, said it has successfully completed a full life cycle project for a North Sea oil and gas exploration and production company, worth more than £1 million.

The client’s topside system posed a significant challenge as the aging system had become unreliable and replacement parts were no longer available. As part of its ongoing strategy toward the management of supportable systems, 3sun Group developed a solution to address the reliability and obsolescence issues.

Neil Tawse, Regional Director for 3sun Group, explained, “This project truly demonstrates our game-changing and cohesive approach. Being involved in the job from launch to completion has meant that we have been able to guarantee a consistent and thorough service throughout.”

3sun Group offered a fully integrated solution which initially involved an offshore feasibility survey of the complete control system. This led to a detailed report on its condition with recommendations for the removal of the old system, alongside information required for consideration for the installation of any replacements.

3sun Group has subsequently been awarded the contract for the design, manufacturing and provision of the replacement panels, to be installed during the next planned shutdown of the platform in early 2015, and a solution for the decommissioning and removal of the old panels.

Tawse continued, “Our quality of service and commitment to the project has resulted in a potential through-life support service contract, which would see us provide all aspects of future support for the platform, and work more closely to help ensure that the new system is maintained regularly”.

Graham Hacon, CEO of 3sun Group, added, “Following the acquisition of RRC Controls Services, the Group is able to offer the global subsea market a full turnkey engineering solution by combining our collective knowledge and experience. We always deliver even with short timescales from a low cost base, with all elements of a subsea system manufactured in-house, rather than outsourced.

“This contract is testament to our commitment to deliver expert advice and execution. We look at the big picture and identify the ways we can add value as a Group. We are able to work on aging platforms to adapt new technologies, providing longevity to the platform’s operations and cost benefits to our clients. Our experienced teams mean that even without original drawings or specifications, we can assess the equipment as built and apply our expertise to offer a solution.”
