US Okays LPG Exports to Venezuela

Shale Pioneer Chesapeake Energy Files for Bankruptcy

Chesapeake Energy Corp filed for Chapter 11 on Sunday, becoming the largest U.S. oil and gas producer to seek bankruptcy protection in recent years as it bowed to heavy debts and the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on energy markets.The filing marks an end of an era for the Oklahoma City-based shale pioneer, and comes after months of negotiations with creditors. Stena Drilling Extends Inspection Contract with Sparrows

Sparrows Group has been awarded a three-and-a-half-year extension to its inspection services contract for Stena Drilling’s global fleet of drilling vessels. The contract scope includes carrying out LOLER lifting gear surveys, potential dropped objects surveys, cargo carrying unit (CCU) and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections as well as rig specific maintenance. Gaylin International Pte Ltd and Rigmarine, part of its group of companies, will stock the William Hackett second-generation SS-L5 subsea lever hoist, available in capacities from 800kg to 20t, from 10 global locations. Sparrows Group Bags 5-year Maersk Oil Contract

Sparrows Group has secured a five year contract to deliver hydraulic, lifting and rigging services for Maersk Oil’s UK floating assets. The agreement will see Sparrows support the operator in strengthening its lifting operations for the Global Producer 3 (GP3) and Gryphon FPSO’s and the new Culzean FSO. The scope encompasses hydraulic services including maintenance, repair and parts and materials procurement; as well as the supply, management and certification of all lifting gear.

InterMoor Upgrades its Port Açu Facility in Brazil

InterMoor said it has added inspection and testing capabilities to its marine base at the Açu Superport in São João da Barra, northern Rio de Janeiro. Open from June 2014, InterMoor’s Port Açu facility is located on a 52,300-m2 site with a 90-m quayside, a 10-m operational draft and a back storage area of 580 m2. With the recent developments, the base now boasts a 1,000-ton test bed and can perform load and breaking test for chain, wire rope and mooring accessories up to 800t SWL.

Oilfield service provider Danos announced its 2015 Employees of the Year, Mark Doiron and Rene Vidrine. The award is presented each year to one staff member and one field employee who best embody the company’s core purpose and values. “We congratulate Rene and Mark for receiving this prestigious award,” said CEO Hank Danos. Staff Employee of the Year Rene Vidrine started as as a safety specialist for Danos in 2006. In 2012, he joined the Danos team working in West Texas to to establish a foothold in the Permian Basin.

Chain Tensioning, Cutting Completed for FPSO Turritella

InterMoor said it has completed the final tensioning and chain cutting operations on the FPSO Turritella for the Shell Stones project, located in the Walker Ridge protraction area in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM). The FPSO Turritella will connect to subsea infrastructure located beneath approximately 9,500 ft (2,896 m) of water, breaking the existing water depth record for an oil and gas production facility. This ultra-deepwater project marks the first FPSO for Shell in the GoM, and the second FPSO in the GoM.

Monaco Raids Unaoil Offices Over Global Oil Corruption Probe

Monaco authorities raided the offices of Unaoil, an energy services company, and the homes of its directors after Britain asked for help investigating alleged corruption in the global oil industry. Monaco's government said on its website that it acted after receiving an urgent request for international judicial assistance in criminal matters from Britain's Serious Fraud Office (SFO). Unaoil directors were questioned by Monaco police on Tuesday and Wednesday, the government said.

Chesapeake's McClendon Honored in Oklahoma Waterfront Ceremony

Friends, family and employees of Aubrey McClendon gathered at dawn on Saturday at Oklahoma City's riverfront to pay their respects to the U.S. energy entrepreneur who died this week in a car crash, a day after being indicted on bid-rigging charges. Several hundred people came together in Oklahoma City's Boathouse District, a recreation area along the river that McClendon helped develop after co-founding Chesapeake Energy Corp in 1989 and turning it into one of the leaders of the U.S. fracking boom.

Statoil Awards Contract for Sture and Kollsnes

Statoil has awarded the contract for ISO (insulation, scaffolding and surface treatment) maintenance services at Sture and Kollnes to Prezioso Linjebygg AS. At Kollsnes the contract has been awarded on behalf of the operator Gassco. The contract has a value of NOK 1.1 billion over the 10-year contract period. Maintenance contracts for all of the company’s facilities are being reviewed and included in the ongoing ISO re-negotiation process.

Continental CEO: VW Scandal could kill U.S. Diesel Car Market

Volkswagen's emissions test-cheating scandal could kill nascent markets for diesel cars in North America, Japan and China, the chief executive of automotive supplier Continental has told a German newspaper. "The diesel passenger car could sooner or later disappear from these markets," Elmar Degenhart said in an interview with markets daily Boersen-Zeitung published on Thursday. He added that diesel had a market share of only 1-3 percent in these countries, compared with 53 percent in Europe.
