NYK Bulk Carrier Completes Another Run on Biofuel

NYK conducts third successful biofuel trial on ship carrying Tata Steel cargoThe bulk carrier Frontier Sky, which is owned by NYK and operated by Tata NYK Shipping Pte. Ltd., conducted a trial use of biofuel to transport cargo provided by Tata Steel Limited, the major steel manufacturer in India. According to the company, this is the third successful trial use of biofuel by an NYK vessel.In this test voyage, the vessel was fueled with biofuel by Toyota Tsusho Petroleum Pte. Ltd.

MISC Takes Delivery of VLEC Seri Elbert

MISC Berhad (MISC) has taken delivery of its sixth Very Large Ethane Carrier (VLEC) – Seri Elbert, from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. Seri Elbert and her sister vessels - Seri Everest, Seri Erlang, Seri Emei, Seri Emory and Seri Emperor are a series of second generation VLECs – all of which were acquired by MISC from Zhejiang Satellite Petrochemical Co. Qatar Mulls Buying 60 New LNG Carriers

Qatar’s energy minister Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, who also serves as deputy chairman of Qatar Petroleum (QP), outlined plans to order 60 new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.Reuters, quoting a statement issued by South Korea’s presidential office, reported that the energy minister expects cooperation with experienced Korean shipbuilders on constructing the LNG carriers.Qatar is the world’s largest supplier of LNG, with an annual production of 77 million tons.

South Korea Dominates LNG Shipbuilding

The liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier orders received by South Korean shipbuilders have more than tripled from last year.According to Reuters, the three South Korean yards - Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries - have won the more than 50 orders for ships carrying LNG, with a total value of $9 billion.According to Clarkson, a shipbuilding research company in the U.K. on Nov. 20, LNG carrier orders from January to October this year totaled 43 units or 6.8 million cubic meters…

GTT to Equip FSRU Newbuild

GTT has received an order notification from South Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) to equip a new floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) with its Mark III cryogenic membrane containment system.The FSRU of 170,000 m3 will be built on behalf of a European ship-owner. Höegh LNG Holdings Ltd. took delivery of Höegh Esperanza, its eight floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU). The FSRU was constructed at Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea and is designed for open, combined and closed loop regasification operation. It has a storage capacity of 170 000 cbm of LNG and a maximum regasification throughput of 750 million standard cubic feet per day. It is equipped with a GTT Mark III membrane containment system and dual-fuel diesel-electric (DFDE) propulsion.

Construction Begins on Saudi Aramco's Shipyard Joint Venture

Construction work has begun on a joint venture to build a shipyard on Saudi Arabia's eastern coast, oil rig builder Lamprell Plc said in a statement on Friday. The joint venture, International Maritime Industries (IMI), started operations after reaching agreement for a loan from the state-backed Saudi Industrial Development Fund (SIDF), the statement said. The SIDF agreed in principle last year to provide 3.75 billion riyals ($1 billion) in financing for the project.
